Titanic Kids:  Fun Facts and Classroom Activities

Did you know that there were 1,750 quarts of ice cream stored in the galleys of the Titanic?  Do you know what happened to the 12 dogs traveling on board?  This guide will engage young students in the fascinating story of Titanic’s historic maiden voyage.  Includes a book report, wordsearch, cloze worksheet and innovative classroom extension activities to enrich instruction in Reading, Math, Social Studies, Science and Language Arts.  Grades K – 3.

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

The lessons in this guide will be invaluable to teachers wishing to generate student interest before visiting the exhibition and extend student learning beyond the field trip. Use this guide to help students write letters from the point of view of Titanic passengers, learn how artifacts are preserved, think about the history of safety regulations and understand the science behind the sinking of the most famous luxury ship in history. Grades 4 – 8.

Titanic:  Essential Questions 

An Inquiry Unit is a way to creatively engage students in the process of problem solving.  These thought-provoking classroom activities are designed to stimulate class discussions, generate personal essays and/or assign research papers.  This unit includes an Evaluation Rubric for classroom use.  Grades 9 -12.

Titanic Science

The Maryland Science Center, creator of the exhibition Titanic Science, has prepared an imaginative 48 page teachers' guide for elementary, middle and high school students.  The purpose of this guide is to explore the story of Titanic primarily from the scientific point of view.  The emphasis is on hands-on investigation for students. All activities are coded to the appropriate National Science Standards and National Social Studies Standards.
