ENGINE ROOM

The Titanic was propelled by three massive steam engines: two reciprocating units driving the wing propellers and a separate turbine engine driving the center propeller. RMS Titanic, Inc. has recovered several artifacts from the reciprocating engine room, which served as the command station for the entire power train. The largest piece brought to the surface is one of the Ship's eccentric straps (93/0132), part of the linkage that controlled the steam valves, acting as a cam follower or tappet would in an automobile engine.

Also recovered from this area of the Ship are a wrench (00/0078), an engine oiler (00/0263), and several engine oil lubrication boxes (93/0101).
